Abstract
This study aims to broaden the application of brain research in the field of psychotherapy by examining changes in brain waves, changes in parenting stress, and interaction through family play therapy in families of children with ADHD. To this end, 8 sessions of family play therapy were conducted and the changes were examined in consideration of the characteristics of EEG. The results suggest the following; first, when looking at the change in theta waves that increase during creative cognitive activities, psychological health, and enjoyable activities, children viewed family play as a fun and creative activity. Second, when looking at the changes in alpha wave, which is used as a measure of emotional stability, all family members experienced increased emotional stability. Third, when looking at the changes in low beta waves that appear when immersed in a given task such as concentration and momentum, parents took the initiative in family play, and through this, children experienced brain relaxation. Fourth, when seeing the change in high beta waves related to stress, the stress of mothers and children was relieved through family play. In addition, it was confirmed that all parenting stress levels decreased, and positive and cooperative interactions between children and parents increased through cooperative picture analysis. As described above, when the changes in brain waves, parenting stress, and interactions are synthesized, it can be seen that the family play therapy intervention in families of children with ADHD had a positive effect. This study is meaningful in that it presents the EEG changes observed and the family play therapy intervention experiences of each member of the ADHD child's family in an integrated manner.
